I am Eunchong!

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology at the University of California San Diego and the founder and executive director of Media Noon, a non-profit media organization based in South Korea.

BA: University of California Berkeley, Peace and Conflict Studies
MA: The Graduate Institute of Peace Studies, Kyung Hee University, Peace and Global Governance

My research centers around social movements, neoliberalism, and generation analysis. Specifically, I aim to understand the impact of neoliberalism on individuals’ ideas, values, and beliefs, and how people navigate a society that emphasizes individual responsibility and dissolves the collective.

As a media activist, I have produced several short documentaries on social minorities in South Korea and organized engaging workshops to help amplify their voices. Additionally, I run Media Activism Schools, which aim to train young journalists and media activists in South Korea. My goal is to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and other social members, enabling people to use their voices to make a difference.

Through sociology and media, I break down the complexities of society and bring together its diverse pieces to create a more cohesive whole
